Welcome!

My name is Kara Harders and I am one of  Colorado IFYE's (which formerly stood for International 4H Youth Exchange) 2014 participants.
I have been born and raised in Longmont, Colorado and graduated from Niwot High School in 2008. Throughout High School and College I have worked for Sombrero Ranches doing tractor and horse work for over 10 years. After High School I attended Northeastern Junior and then Colorado State, graduating in 2012 with a degree in Agricultural Education. I taught for a year and decided that I wanted to pursue a different path in life.
I could not be more excited to be going to Finland and Germany through the IFYE program this June-December. I am so very eager to learn about the people and cultures of different places.

If you want to contact me I would love to hear your questions and comments, please direct them to my email:

Finland

My first country is Finland, I will be there for just under three months, June 23 until September 8.
Finland is a Scandinavian country located in the far northern hemisphere, latitudinally even with parts of northern Canada and Alaska. There are around 5 million people who call Finland home, or as they say Suomi (that is what they call Finland). The majority of Finns live in the far southern most portion of the country near Helsinki. Northern Finland also known as Lapland is far less populated as the weather is harsher there, however it IS where the real Santa resides.
Finnish is an incredibly difficult language to learn and the task is a bit daunting, but my director has assured me I will be ok.
I will be staying with three families from the southern half of Finland, each has a sub page for details on the families and my time spent there. Enjoy!

~Germany

My second country will be Germany, I will be there for just under three months. September 22 until December 4. Germany is located on the Northern end of the central part of Europe, it is surrounded by Denmark, Poland, The Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and Netherlands.
~Germany is the most populous country in the European Union with  80.6 million residents, which is rather densely populated since it is only 137,901 square miles. That's about 580 people per square mile, the US state of Delaware is only 475!
I will be staying in four of the 16 states; Niedersachsen, Hessen, Brandenburg and Nordrhine-Westfalen.
